Like the 911 Carrera Coupé and the 911 Carrera S Coupé, the 911 Carrera Cabriolet models once again set standards with respect to performance, fuel consumption and comfort. As with the Coupé, approx. 90% of all parts have been redesigned or fundamentally revised.

The intelligent lightweight construction has contributed to a reduction of 132 lbs (60 kg) in the vehicle weight on the one hand and to high body rigidity on the other. A unique, completely redesigned fabric convertible top with magnesium elements creates the continuous coupé-style roofline.

This, together with the integrated wind deflector, which is electrically operated for the first time, has set new standards in the cabriolet segment. A high level of qualification throughout the entire AfterSales organization is essential to meet the high expectations of Porsche customers, in spite of the ever-increasing complexity of the technology used in the vehicles and the growing number of different variants.

This Service Information Technik describes the technical modifications that have been made to the 911 Cabriolet generation based on the vehicles from the 2nd generation 997 (model years 2008 to 2012) as well as the 991 Coupé models.

The Service Information Technik does not contain any technical data or part numbers; it is not intended for use as a basis for carrying out repairs or troubleshooting technical problems. The 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S Service Information is not intended as a reference for repairs or for the diagnosis of technical problems.

The 911 generation is available with two different engines. The 3.4-liter flat-six engine of the Carrera delivers 350 hp and has a top speed of 179 mph (289 km/h). A regenerative brake system, demand-controlled auxiliary units, a coasting function (rolling without engine power) and Auto Start-Stop contribute to reduced fuel consumption. The new 7-speed transmission has been a significant contributing factor here. The Carrera S reaches a top speed of 188 mph (302 km/h) with its 400-hp 3.8-liter engine.

In addition to the higher engine speeds for both engine variants, the new roll stabilization system and the dynamic engine mountings, which are available with the Sport Chrono package, have played a major role in reducing the lap time on the Nordschleife with the Carrera S by 13 seconds to 7 minutes and 40 seconds. A high level of qualification throughout the entire AfterSales organization is essential to meet the high expectations of Porsche customers, in spite of the ever-increasing complexity of the technology used in the vehicles and the growing number of different variants.

The 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera 4/4S Service Information is not intended as a reference for repairs or for the diagnosis of technical problems.

The 911 Carrera 4 models use the flat-six engines familiar from the 911 Carrera models with significantly higher performance figures compared with the previous model. The power output of the 3.4-liter flat engine has been increased by 5 hp to 350 hp (254 kW) despite a 0.2-liter reduction in displacement.

The power output of the 3.8-liter engine has been increased by 15 hp to 400 hp (297 kW) and the torque has been increased by 15 ft lb (20 Nm) to 325 ft lb (440 Nm). At the same time, the fuel consumption of the 911 Carrera 4 models has been reduced by up to 16%.

The 2nd generation Cayenne, Cayenne S and Cayenne Turbo models have a higher-performance engine with direct fuel injection (DFI). The basic version of the sporty off-road vehicle has an increased power output of 40 HP (29 kW). The Cayenne is driven by a 290 HP (213 kW) six-cylinder engine. Displacement has been increased from 3.2 litres to 3.6 litres and the torque was increased from 230 ftlb. (310 Nm) to 285 ftlb. (385 Nm).

Porsche plug-in hybrid drive – a superior drive concept. Similar to the Panamera S E-Hybrid, the parallel hybrid drive concept has now also been implemented in the Cayenne S E-Hybrid. The permanent all-wheel drive in the Cayenne S E-Hybrid has been specially adapted to the requirements of purely electric as well as hybrid driving.

The torque split to the individual axles of the all-wheel drivetrain utilizes the kinetic energy of the vehicle to charge the lithium-ion high-voltage battery with optimum efficiency during recuperation. A newly developed lithium-ion high-voltage battery with a higher energy content (10.8 kWh), which is adapted to the greater vehicle drag and weight of the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is used.

In addition to recuperation during braking and the E-Charge mode, charging is carried out via a standards-compliant charge port on the left side of the vehicle. This evolution enables the high-voltage battery to be charged externally from the grid power supply. The electric drive provides the power and torque needed to ensure the necessary electric performance (95 hp/70 kW).

The top speed achievable when the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is operated purely electrically is 75 mph (125 km/h). The maximum range of 22 miles (36 km) (NEDC) without the use of fuel and local emissions represents a superlative electric driving experience. Particularly during urban driving and for daily commutes, Porsche has therefore achieved significant progress with regard to hybrid vehicles.

The new Cayenne S E-Hybrid features the same combustion engine as all the hybrid vehicles offered by Porsche. The performance when the combustion engine and electric motor are operated in unison is typical Porsche. Here, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid sprints from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 5.4 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 151 mph (243 km/h).
